*Beginners
The beginner salsa classes introduces you the rhythm, the timing of the music, as well as to engage on a pattern of consequently following the basic steps and be able to dance with a partner where males lead the ladies & the ladies following the lead. You will learn the basic footwork in a variety of different moves dancing with your partner in a good leading connection, using the floor space & most importantly; enjoying the music with the moves merging together.
Here you will learn a variety of moves that are more progressive from the beginners classes as they are the fundamentals for you to move ahead to the next level, here we will pay more attention to the styling and to the combination of different moves. Also, you will be practicing a lot of turns, change positions with your partner using a lot of the dance floor in a consecutive circular motion, your timing & steps are very precise on timing so synchronising is one of the aims that we will work on.
Here students are very well dominating their footwork, are very good controlling the speed of fast music leading their partners very well around the dance floor learning very complicated moves that change from one to another so the moves are not repetitive, you are able to do fast dips, also well styling your moves with confidence, as well ladies are very confident in their moves.
In this group ladies are able to isolate part of their body and move with style dance using different techniques to shine and standout.
In this level you are very much in tune with all the basic steps that correspond to the group you are placed in, whether that is Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced.
That means that you are easily able to lead & be lead with no hesitation, you are able to dance on time with the music, you are also in control with your footwork & the space floor moving fluently together with your partner.
This level is the next level up where now you are introduced to new set of moves that are a bit more challenging. You will also be encouraged to challenge yourself to dance to songs that have a faster beat & timing. You will learn more styling & work with your partner on action & reaction, frame work, body roll, etc.
This group are the ones that have definitely been dancing for a while as it takes time to get here. Practice is the key of everything and definitely for dancing, also dancing with different people will help you to understand how to use your dancing skills as everybody is different.
You will use a very styled dancing mixing a variety of complicated moves in a fast paced, lot of turnings, moving constantly around the dance floor in circular motions. Maybe able to use some props to make your dancing very stylish.

Is a sexy, energetic and fun partner dance. It is a very sociable dance that has a great beat, rhythm and creates a happy enjoyable dance, the movements of Salsa are a combination of the Afro-Cuban dances Son, Cha-cha-cha, Mambo, Rumba, Bomba and the Danzón
Salsa was originated in Cuba, where rhythms from the two main existing styles of music in the region (Cuban Son and Afro-Cuban Rumba) were combined to create a new dance. This new rhythm was combined with American Jazz and taken to New York by Cuban musicians.
A simple, sensuous dance originating from the Dominican Republic. This is a close partner dance, the colourful roots of Bachata are reflected in its romantic motions and accompanying music. Today, this passionate form of dance is popular all over Latin America and beyond. Bachata is relatively easy for learners and allows dance masters plenty of freedom to flaunt their skills.
SCS will start with their introductory warm up classes for everyone, all levels together, to listen to the music enjoy the melody while recognising the beat & timing of the music, dancing the basic steps to it to get us started and warmed up.
Southern Cross Salsa participates in different events throughout the year. Most of them are festivals across the Peninsula (Frankston, Mornington & Mordialloc) and others. Where our dancers perform on the stage to the public, we also get invitations to perform for special and private events. We also try and get together quite often for social outings to different clubs and festivals for fun, this is a great way to get involved, socialise, meet others and share our passion for dancing.
We also hold a Beach Party Annually to introduce and celebrate Australia Day & the new year every Aus Day weekend.
